Gencon edition — reported rules

A readable version of the rules recalled by players who attended the Gencon demos. It may change before the official release planned for summer 2027.

Provisional community rules
This is not an official rulebook.

The source is a community report built from recollection, social posts and player input. Confirmed facts, reports and unresolved details remain clearly separated.

01

Deckbuilding

  • A deck contains 50 cards, with up to three copies of each card.
  • Each player also uses one leader card, five Chakra cards and one Summon card.
  • Every card in the deck must share a colour with the leader.
02

Game start and draw

  • Both players draw an opening hand of five cards.
  • Only the player going second may take one full-hand mulligan.
  • On turn one the first player draws one card and the second draws two; from turn two onward both players draw two.
03

Phases and Main

  • Each turn follows four phases in this order: Refresh, Draw, Main and End.
  • During Refresh, all cards are returned to Active Mode, except spent Chakra does not automatically turn face-up.
  • There is no separate Battle Phase: during Main you may play cards, activate Jutsu and attack in any legal order.
04

Summons and EX characters

  • Normal summons are limited to one per turn and require resting the Summon card.
  • EX characters and effect-based summons do not use the Summon card or the normal-summon limit; EX cards must meet their printed requirements.
  • Characters cannot attack on the turn they are played unless they have Rush.
05

Attacks and damage

  • DMG is used against leaders and POW against characters. Rest the attacking character to declare an attack.
  • Only characters in Rest Mode may be attacked; leaders may be attacked in Active or Rest Mode.
  • There are no blockers. Only the defending character takes damage; subtract the attacker's POW from its HP and send it to the trash at zero HP.
  • Damage on a surviving defending character remains until the end of the turn.
06

Attack sequence

  • Resolve in this exact reported order: attack declaration, effect declaration, support cut-in, damage step.
  • The report does not yet define detailed priority, simultaneous triggers or every legal response window.
07

Chakra

  • Each player starts with five face-up Chakra cards. Spent Chakra turns face-down and does not recover automatically during Refresh.
  • Chakra pays for support effects such as Ninjutsu; there is no reported passive recovery.
  • The report allows resting an active leader at any time to recover Chakra; a rested leader cannot attack. The exact recovery amount and timing details remain unresolved.
08

Support cards and chains

  • A support character may be normally summoned, set face-down as Ambush, or activate Ninjutsu directly from hand.
  • Ninjutsu from hand is limited to your turn; an Ambush character may activate it during the opponent's turn. Pay its Chakra cost.
  • When multiple supports form a chain, resolve them from the last one activated to the first.
  • Quick is reported as usable from hand at any time; Support activated responds to an opponent's support. Their exact priority windows remain unresolved.
09

Board layout

  • The Character Area and Support Area each hold up to five cards.
  • The reported limits are 50 cards for the Deck Area and 50 for the Trash Area.
  • The separate EX Character Area was removed. The precise function of the Exclusion Area remains unresolved.
10

Turn flow

  1. Refresh
  2. Draw
  3. Main
  4. End
